A reality check means genuinely asking yourself — with real curiosity, not habit — could I be dreaming right now? Become intensely interested in resolving that question. Then once resolved, briefly consider: if this were a dream, what would I do?
The hands test: Look at your hands. Turn them front to back. In a dream they distort, blur, or have extra fingers. The dreaming mind cannot replicate hands accurately. This is your most reliable check.
Other checks: Look at a digital clock twice — numbers shift in dreams. Flip a light switch — rarely works in dreams. Read a word, look away, read again — text shifts in dreams.
The math: You spend one third of your life asleep. Ten percent of each day is spent dreaming. Do 10 checks a day and the odds are that one will occur while you're actually dreaming.
